Watching Without being Seen
“Watching Without Being Seen” is an interactive design project that explores the often-overlooked perspective of museum security staff. Using a combination of sensor-triggered installations and immersive sound media, the project highlights the paradoxical presence of these individuals—constantly present and vigilant, yet largely invisible within the museum space. By shifting the audience’s attention toward the emotional and sensory experience of security guards, the project emphasizes their vital role in maintaining the safety and atmosphere of cultural institutions. Through carefully crafted soundscapes and responsive technology, it aims to not only acknowledge their contributions but also enhance their working conditions. The audio environment is designed to reduce stress and increase engagement during long periods of routine surveillance. As a scalable and adaptable system, this project has the potential to be implemented across a wide range of museums, offering a more humane, respectful, and thoughtful approach to workplace design within cultural spaces.
