On the Purification of Tooth
This project explores the creation of a physical monster model, utilizing techniques inspired by cinematic practical effects and special effects makeup. Drawing from themes in body horror and indirect terror, the monster will embody the grotesque—physically horrifying yet rich in psychological symbolism. The work will also reflect on the cultural and existential roles of monsters as mediators of fear.
The project aligns with the aesthetics of classic horror cinema, incorporating influences from films like The Thing, Pan’s Labyrinth, and Hellraiser. It examines how physical props and makeup effects can evoke immediate, visceral reactions while allowing room for indirect, thematic interpretations.
