This project began with my personal struggle with Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), such as nail-biting and skin-picking. Learning about BFRBs opened my eyes to their psychological underpinnings and the importance of self-acceptance. I explored their causes, prevalence, and effects through surveys of around 80 people, revealing that most had experienced these behaviors at some point, often beginning in childhood. Recognizing the link between repetitive motion, muscle memory, and cultural habits, I conducted social experiments: a non-functional button that recorded presses, and an exploration of chopstick usage among different cultural groups. These experiments revealed insights into subconscious actions and the impact of cultural learning on muscle memory. Inspired by artist Johnston, I attempted to preserve postures using materials like steel and clay.

Finally, I considered interactive digital media to visualize hand movements and implicit memories, aiming to both entertain and educate. I developed two models: one for BFRB users to aid therapy through CBT and HRT principles, and another for general users to visualize posture patterns. This journey deepened my understanding of my body, fostered self-acceptance, and highlighted the potential of design to enhance awareness and community support.
Additionally, I have also created a mini game based on my own story about BFRBs.
