The Material Shore
Rooted on Margate’s shores, this project transforms the overlooked abundance of brown algae into woven souvenirs. Each piece; a wearable, a playful and a decorative object, celebrate the material’s organic beauty and its ability to return to nature once discarded. In a town rich with craft and creativity, these objects honour locality, using what the shoreline offers instead of what industry ships in. They invite tourists to connect with the culture of the place through materiality, texture, and time, providing not just mementos, but biodegradable adaptations to iconic seaside souvenirs encouraging reflection upon materials and value of craftsmanship.
