The Story of a Household
“Home cultures” is a term used to identify the birth of a new culture in the space of a home. Two or more cultures colliding with one another to become something else entirely.
Based on the concept of hybridity, mixed cultures transform into a new culture in the context of the home - the home culture. This then informs our identity as individuals and is shown through the things we keep.
Focusing on the kitchen as the heart of a home, this project looks into the sensory and human connections created in the space that cultivate our cultural and individual identities. With love, our unique homemade meals are recreated and preserved in memory as an attempt to connect to a home abroad. This is uncovered through various methods of craft to invigorate the senses and the heart to discover what comfort means to us.
