Play, Break, Become
This project is about toys, women, and identity perception. Toys are our earliest medium of exposure to the world. Toys shape and influence our perceptions as children. Toys for girls often convey messages of disciplining femininity, avoiding conflict, and learning to take better care of others. However, as we grow up, our self-perceptions change, and women are no longer confined to these rules. By taking apart these toys, I am also dismantling the messages and turning them into pieces. Through a workshop format, girls of the same age are invited to reassemble the toys into new toys that represent everyone. In the process, reflect on your own identity and situation.
