Innocuous
My Project is about furthering the concept, imagery and process of my brand, Innocuous. The main piece is a digitally embroidered tapestry which is made up of people, places and social commentry, all expressed in a heavily stylized fashion. Overall, Innocuous is a social comment on how people build their own unique style and response, by innocuously observing and absorbing information throughout their lives. A similar action to the saying, “being a fly on the wall”. This is why my logo is a fly. Another main characteristic of Innocuous is thought provoking designs included on the back of the garments. My tapestry is an extension of the concept of observation, specifically mine, it includes imagery based on information I have experienced over the past three years and more: friends, places, events, music, conversations and also some sytlistic references to my favourite artists, including JJ Grandville, Guy Peelaert and Wes Wilson. Also conceptual influences of identity with Grayson Perry’s textile art. these artists have documented their environments and eras and this is me documenting mine, through the medium of thread. I have become the metaphor of my observing fly, using digital embroidery to depict my surroundings and symbolism about social circumstances.
