All systems – shipping (human) to weather (nature) – are interconnected with the ocean. Yet this interdependence is rarely recognised in our response(s) to ocean-associated challenges whether human or nature focused.
Sustainable future design often directs us to past material/object uses as solutions, but understanding innovation makes it clear that design by ‘hacking’ current systems (human and nature) is most transformative.
This project envisions an interdependent future through objects that bridge, or ‘hack’, nature’s designs – fish gills to marine grains – with human’s survival needs – breathing to communication – to encourage belief in design-driven positive ocean-futures.
